The Challenge
A project that shoulders a strong bond between Japan’s culture and its principles. Exploring different methods to replicate the experience of the art form and avoiding a textbook format.
The Solution
Visually portraying the craft through a seamless book design, embodying its spiritual and practical experience. Revealing the raw beauty of the characters and the tactile textures of the rice paper unravelled by the ink.
Tactile textures of the rice paper unravelled by the ink, Unravels a natural affect that to replicates the breath throughout the brush strokes.
The book was binded was a Japanese stab bound, with a raw naked spine to reveal the beauty of the paper stacked.
Finished of with a string tying it all together.
Black pages indicated instructional text and personal monologues of my attempt to practice calligraphy.
